Platformers' Days becomes the leading trade fair for aerial working platforms, cranes and forklifts in the DACH region

The third edition of Platformers' Days, the most important trade fair for aerial working platforms, cranes and forklifts in the DACH region, brought together the who's who of lifting and access technology at Messe Karlsruhe. Over two compact trade fair days (6 and 7 September 2024), around 110 exhibitors presented a unique, high-quality portfolio of products and services in the exhibition hall and on the open-air site, covering the entire range of lifting and access technology and providing in-depth technical advice on the equipment.

"The Platformers' Days thus join the portfolio of leading trade fairs organised by Messe Karlsruhe and have once again impressed this year with genuine product innovations, forward-looking technical solutions and great innovative strength. With its economic strength and technologisation, the trade fair fits into the TechnologieRegion Karlsruhe, one of the strongest economic and innovation regions in Europe," says Britta Wirtz, Managing Director of Messe Karlsruhe.

Dr Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, Minister of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism of the state of Baden-Württemberg and patron of Platformers' Days, emphasised in her statement: "Thanks to their practical relevance, Platformers' Days have been combining intensive product consulting, knowledge transfer and networking opportunities for 25 years. It is therefore all the more pleasing that Karlsruhe has established itself as the ideal location for the Platformers' Days."

Show concepts demonstrate technology in action

In Hall 1, interested visitors found two realistic model construction sites with fully electric equipment and vehicles, while in the outdoor area numerous machines demonstrated their off-road capabilities, which proved to be a real crowd-puller.

"The key players in the lifting and access technology sector presented a firework display of impressive machine technology at the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre these past few days. The presence of the manufacturers goes far beyond the mere product presentation. For rental companies and users of work platforms, cranes and forklifts, it is a real asset to be able to experience the equipment in direct comparison, to get an idea of their own operations and to network with industry experts," says Philipp Doll, Project Manager of Platformers' Days.

Platformers' Days 2024

Platformers' Days qualify as leading trade fair

With the third successful edition in Karlsruhe, Platformers' Days has proven to be the leading trade fair in the German-speaking region. Not only did the number of trade visitors from all over Germany and beyond increase by 20 per cent (2,700 participants, including 1,800 trade visitors), but the quality and reach of the trade fair also increased significantly compared to the previous event. The number of trade visitors increased by nine per cent, and the number from North Rhine-Westphalia, for example, even doubled.

The trade fair also recorded significant growth among relevant target groups this year: The proportion of larger rental companies rose by over 20 per cent, making up half of the audience. Paul Becker GmbH also belongs to this category: "We visit Platformers' Days because everything here is very compact, and we simply find everything we need in the exhibition space at Messe Karlsruhe: The products and innovations that we can discuss with the manufacturers and also what's coming in the future. Seeing devices not just on paper but experiencing them live on site is real added value for us," says trade visitor Vanessa Binz, Managing Partner of Paul Becker GmbH.

Trade fair positions itself strategically and has its ear to the market

In future, Platformers' Days will be held on Thursdays and Fridays, thereby further establishing itself as a trade fair. The stabilisation of the rotation to a future two-year rhythm in the even years also contributes to this.

"With the support of the PD steering committee, which was newly founded in April, we have already set the course for the biennial cycle in the run-up to the trade fair, also with a view to the industry's innovation cycle. The scheduling on the working days is confirmed by the current composition of the trade audience. We are thus making PD an absolute must - and not just for the presentation of product premieres," says Beate Frères, Division Director at Messe Karlsruhe.

Henrich Clewing, Managing Director at Merlo Germany and member of the PD steering committee, emphasises this: "I think the biennial date is good because the trade fair will be even more widely recognised. We had intensive discussions in the steering committee and brought in different perspectives - because this committee is characterised by a very good composition from the world of rental companies and manufacturers. The Platformers' Days are a perfect meeting place for the industry and have established themselves in Karlsruhe. In this respect, I am certain that the trade fair is and will remain highly attractive for exhibitors and customers alike and offers exactly what they are looking for."

The next Platformers' Days will take place on 8 and 9 October 2026.

Platformers' Days celebrates its 25th anniversary with numerous highlights

For a quarter of a century, Platformers' Days has been the most important trade fair for aerial working platforms, cranes and forklifts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. From 6 to 7 September 2024, PD fans and everybody who is interested will once again be able to find out about a wide range of machines, pioneering solutions and complementary products from the most important manufacturers and dealers. Around 110 exhibitors will be showcasing their products on 32,000 square metres of exhibition space in Karlsruhe.

"Once again, this year, the presence of many manufacturers goes beyond just the stand area: around a dozen manufacturers and dealers of lifting and access technology will be presenting themselves in exclusive live demonstrations and answering questions from interested parties in the "Demo Area" and "Electric Park" show areas," explains Philipp Doll, Project Manager of Platformers' Days.

Construction site instead of theory: advanced show concepts bring technologies to life

In the Electro-Park, which has been moved to the centre of Hall 1, visitors will find two main topics: A model construction site showing the façade construction of a warehouse and one dealing with the installation of solar panels on a detached house. Both scenarios show how the devices interlock to optimise processes on the construction site - completely emission-free, without a combustion engine and with low noise levels. Both shows will feature industry experts such as ATG Lift, AVANT, Böcker, CTE, Dieci, Klaas and Merlo, who will each bring a part of the construction site to life with a trailer crane, telescopic forklift or crawler work platform.

Demo-Area in the outdoor area

The Demo-Area will showcase various telescopic boom lifts, scissor lifts and a mini crane in a live demonstration under realistic construction site conditions on around 1000 square metres of outdoor space. This gives visitors the opportunity to compare the machines directly in operation. Experts from the participating companies Genie/BSI/ATG, Haulotte, Jekko, JLG, PB Lifttechnik and Sahalift will be on hand to explain the finer points of their machines and answer any questions.

All show times for the electric park and the demo area can be found on the Platformers' Days website.

Exhibitor highlights at Platformers' Days 2024: First-time presentations, innovative machines and alternative drive technology

The third edition of Platformers' Days in Karlsruhe will once again provide a platform for highlights and innovations from the most important manufacturers and dealers in the aerial working platform, crane and forklift segments.

Faymonville, one of the major manufacturers of semi-trailers and low-loaders, is coming to Platformers' Days for the first time. The MEGAMAX 3-axle low-bed semi-trailer has a retractable gooseneck, an extendable low-bed, hydraulic forced steering and additional air suspension. Platformers' Days is thus expanding its portfolio in the field of transport solutions and heavy-duty logistics.

This year, JLG is presenting its new 660SJ Quad Tracks telescopic boom lift, which offers rental companies more flexibility for customer jobs in the field. It impresses with its additional platform load capacity, increased operating speed and new design.

Magni is bringing its new TH 3.6 rigid telehandler with a payload of three tonnes and a maximum lifting height of 5.8 metres to Platformers' Days. It is the most compact telehandler in this series, which is intended for the construction and logistics sector and will soon also be used in agriculture.

In the field of electric technology, Ruthmann stands out with its all-electric STEIGER Ampero TBR 260 E, which will be on display at the trade fair on the series production chassis of an IVECO e-Daily. Ruthmann's electric solution is particularly impressive due to its low maintenance requirements, low running costs and long service life.

SAHALIFT also joins the ranks of new products. The JIBBI 1890 PRiMO is the first fully electric, self-levelling crawler work platform with telescopic boom. Equipped with a fully electric travel drive and a completely removable battery charging unit, it enables the user to work for longer periods of time and also guarantees shift operation if the situation on site requires it.

This year's Platformers' Days will welcome STILL, one of the major key players in the forklift truck segment, for the first time. With its outstanding all-round service, STILL has stood for quality in the market for lifting and industrial trucks for over a hundred years. On show at Platformers' Days: the new RCE 25-35 electric forklift truck, which has everything that makes a solid helper: power, robustness and efficiency.

Industry expertise meets networking: What visitors can also look forward to

Whether it's the extensive catering on offer during the day, a "Coffee with Ralle" at the Cargotrans stand or the "Pineapple Man" at the Ruthmann catering - the Platformers' Days offer visitors a culinary all-round carefree package. The catering is included in the day ticket.

The PD Networking Night, an atmospheric evening event in the Action Hall and the Atrium of the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre, is the perfect end to the first day of the trade fair and this year is all about "Wine.Dine.Dance". In the evening, visitors can look forward to numerous highlights that invite them to linger and network.

"The highlights of Platformers' Days 2024 are diverse. The exhibitors will once again show what Platformers' Days stands for this year: Exciting new products from the work platform, crane and forklift segments, exclusive live demonstrations on the show areas and a unique networking character. We are looking forward to sustainable and technical solutions that meet the challenges of the market and show how the industry is constantly evolving," adds Olivia Hogenmüller, Team Lead Construction & Environment at Messe Karlsruhe.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism of the State of Baden-Württemberg is the patron of Platformers' Days 2024.

Platformers' Days 2026: Adjusted rotation, date and event days strengthen trade fair for the future

By incorporating numerous market perspectives, PD will be strengthened and geared towards the future.

The focus here is on adapting the rotation, the running days and the dates for subsequent years, considering the needs of exhibitors and visitors.

‘We were in constant dialogue with the industry when making the decision and took into account the innovation cycles of manufacturers and the investment power of customers, for example,’ explains Philipp Doll, Project Manager of Platformers’ Days.

‘In addition to this, we have also included the industry-specific trade fair landscape and the holiday periods of the German federal states as well as neighbouring European countries. By including all perspectives from the industry and its environment, we are sure of positive market acceptance,’ adds Beate Frères, Director at Messe Karlsruhe.

Product variety in the areas of aerial working platforms, cranes and forklifts

From the next edition, the trade fair will be held every two even years. From 2026, Platformers' Days will take place on a new date. The next event will therefore be held on 8 and 9 October 2026, with Thursday and Friday as the days of the event.

The Platformers' Days steering committee, a council of experts from the high-access technology sector, played a key role in shaping the adjustments. Henrich Clewing, CEO of Merlo Deutschland and member of the PD steering committee, comments:

‘For us, it is important that the voices from the industry were heard for the decision-making process for the future direction of Platformers' Days. Early communication offers planning security for exhibitors and visitors. The new cycle will consolidate PD even more exclusively as the centre of the industry and will become a must-attend event for product premieres.’

Concentrated industry expertise for Platformers' Days in Karlsruhe

"Our motivation for the newly established steering committee was to actively involve the industries in the development of the trade fair. I am delighted that we have been able to attract a panel of experts who can shed light on market trends relating to aerial working platforms, cranes and forklifts from different perspectives. In times of great market dynamism, we are thus creating a rapid transfer of knowledge," comments Olivia Hogenmüller, Team Lead at Messe Karlsruhe. "The steering committee plays an important role in developing Platformers' Days at the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre in the long term and with a promising future," adds Beate Frères, Director at Messe Karlsruhe.

Newly formed steering committee meets for the first time

The committee consists of Henrich Clewing, Managing Director Merlo Germany, Jan-Bernd Schumacher, Managing Director Cramer Arbeitsbühnen, Ralf Gärtner, Managing Director Partner Lift, Sven-Meyland Nielsen, Managing Director BSI, Johann Poschner, Sales Manager Hubarbeitsbühnen Palfinger, Christoph Deuter, Sales Manager Böcker Maschinenwerke and Oliwer Sven Dahms, Managing Director Vertikal Events and strategic advisor to Messe Karlsruhe. The members will meet on a regular basis to provide strategic advice on the professional orientation of the trade fair in line with industry requirements, but also to contribute to the long-term development and quality assurance of Platformers' Days.

"The steering committee brings together a cross-section of people with concentrated expertise. The key factor in putting together the committee was to create a comprehensive picture of the industry in terms of supply and demand in order to meet the needs of our exhibitors and visitors," concludes Olivia Hogenmüller.

Platformers' Days convince with national appeal, professional performance and industry network
Platformers' Days 2023

Industry innovation, interaction and the ultimate in machine technology heralded the return of this year's Platformers' Days, which took place for the second time at the Karlsruhe trade fair venue and attracted around 2,400 participants, including almost 1,500 trade visitors. The trade fair is the most important event in mobile lifting and height-access technology in the German-speaking region. More than 100 renowned manufacturers from nine countries presented their product ranges, from access platforms and cranes to the latest forklift innovations.

"For two days, the Karlsruhe technology region was a platform for technology transfer, innovative strength and exciting developments,” says Britta Wirtz, Managing Director of Messe Karlsruhe. “Platformers’ Days is a compact showcase for sustainable technical solutions.”

Olivia Hogenmüller, Team Leader Building and Environment, confirms this: "It is important for us to always be close to the market and respond to industry needs. Thus, we listened to the needs of exhibitors and visitors, and further developed the trade fair concept to make it even more professional and relevant. This was reflected in the range of exhibitors who used Platformers' Days to showcase their world premieres, making us even more proud that the industry calls Karlsruhe home."

Hall at PD 23

New site design hits the spot

With around 20,000 m² of outdoor exhibition space and around 12,500 m² of hall space, this year's Platformers' Days expanded by more than 25 per cent compared with the inaugural Karlsruhe event in 2021. This was as a result of exhibitor wishes for more space for product presentations and live demonstrations. The exhibition area was therefore extended in Hall 1, offering a large catering and networking area, and enabling numerous presentation opportunities thanks to the generous ceiling height. Furthermore, with eight hall doors, the surrounding outdoor exhibition area was easily accessible from all sides. Thomas Wegeler, Managing Director at Haulotte, said of his company’s move from the outdoor exhibition area to the hall area: "We are very enthusiastic about the stand concept that we developed together with Messe Karlsruhe, and it attracted a large audience response."

Florian Kunze-Scheffler, Business Manager at Kunze, is also convinced by the site design: "We were represented both indoors, outdoors and in the demo area. The concept was well received by the public, with a high influx of visitors to both areas. The quality of visitors was also high, and we were able to meet current customers, as well as make new contacts of the access platform sector. We are very satisfied.”

Demo-Area 2023

Direct comparison of technical solutions

On a demonstration area of around 1,000 m², there were demos of tracked and telescopic boom lifts, which highlighted the latest technical solutions during twice-daily live shows. On a terrain designed as an obstacle course, trade visitors were able to realistically experience characteristics such as climbing, compact and support capabilities, but also reach and off-road mobility. Raphael Schibura, Hematec branch manager in Dresden, said: "We decided to participate in the “Demo-Area” because we offer tracked boom lifts and so could present them perfectly, as well as demonstrate the off- road capabilities of our 28-metre telescopic work, both of which were well received by the public." The fact that the Demo-Area was much appreciated was also reflected in the visitor survey, with around 90 per cent of respondents giving the show concepts top marks. Senior Project Manager Philipp Doll, of Messe Karlsruhe, agrees: "The newly designed Demo-Area was a real boon for the supporting programme of Platformers' Days and turned out to be a crowd-puller. It strengthens the hands-on approach and enhances the professional character of the trade fair. Short distances and the option of spontaneous machine demonstrations on the exhibition grounds gave real added value.”

The "Electro-Park" show in the hall area highlighted latest technical solutions designed to meet increasing demand for electrification in the industry. In addition to the machinery exhibition, three participants per day held a lecture programme in the PD-Forum located in the Electro-Park.

Customer consultation at the machine

Great satisfaction all round, high purchasing power and important platform for investment decisions

Platformers' Days consolidated its position as the most important trade fair in the German-speaking region and surrounding areas, with over one-third of visitors travelling more than 300 km to Karlsruhe. Team leader Olivia Hogenmüller is pleased to report that the trade fair's reach has expanded, with many trade visitors attending PD for the first time this year - they travelled from all over Germany.

Visitors' willingness to invest has also increased significantly. Hans-Werner Pütz, a project developer from Niederkassel, became aware of Platformers' Days through a Messe Karlsruhe advertisement, and made a spontaneous visit: "We have been on the market for over 30 years and are always on the lookout for innovations. At Platformers' Days we found exactly what we were looking for, and all in one place. Currently, we have 150 construction machines in our inventory, about two dozen of which are lifting platforms. At the trade fair, we were able to get comprehensive advice. Of course, price plays an important role in our investment decisions, but service and maintenance must also be guaranteed. The trade fair is the perfect platform to sound out manufacturers who can meet our precise requirements."

Michael Nirschl, Managing Director at Thelen Baumaschinen Service GmbH in Essen, also visited the event for the first time: "We are interested in access platforms. The trade fair was the perfect opportunity to discover a large range of products in one location, and compare them with each other. This allows us to identify the best value for money and decide which machines are most suitable for our purposes."

Exhibitor Henrich Clewing, Managing Director at Merlo, sums up: "For us it is a matter of course to be present at PD. We have been part of this family of the access platform world and rental companies for decades and are happy to meet our customers as well as market companions along with everyone else who is interested in our products here."

The patronage of Platformers' Days 2023 is borne by the Ministry of Economics, Labour and Tourism of the State of Baden-Württemberg. The industry associations bbi and VDBUM, as well as the rental association PartnerLIFT provide expertise support for the trade fair. "With strong partners at our side, Platformers' Days can build on this year’s success,” says Beate Frères, Director Market Area II at Messe Karlsruhe. “We are counting on continued good cooperation and look forward to welcoming exhibitors and visitors next year, from 6-7 September 2024. The prospects look promising: numerous exhibitors have already confirmed their participation."

Karlsruhe, 27 July 2023. After a successful debut in 2021 at the trade fair venue in Karlsruhe, Platformers' Days will be held for the second time from 8-9 September 2023. Many of the exhibitors - approximately 110 in total - will be showing innovations from the core areas of work platforms, mobile cranes and telescopic forklifts at the event, which is aimed at those involved in mobile lifting and height access technology.

Novel show concepts: Direct comparison of device technologies

Demos of "crawler work platforms" and telescopic work platforms will take place across an approximately 1000m² area, twice daily during the trade fair in 45-minute live sessions. On the site, which is designed as an obstacle course, climbing, compact and support capabilities will be put to the test, alongside reach and off-road mobility. The aim of the show concepts staged for the first time at Platformers' Days is to give attendees a feel for the various solutions on offer, and allow them to make direct comparisons, according to Beate Frères, Director Market Area at Messe Karlsruhe. Adds Olivia Hogenmüller, Senior Project Manager of Platformers' Days: "I don't know of any other trade fair format in the lifting and height access technology sectors where exhibitors compete fairly with each other on demo areas for a comparison of their products. Seeing how a machine works is great added value for visitors."

Furthermore, interviews will be held in parallel with the demonstrations, during which product specialists from participating exhibitors will explain the special technical features of their machines, During the breaks between the shows, individual customer demonstrations are also possible. Dieter Roters, Managing Director of CMC Arbeitsbühnen and participant in the "Crawler Work Platforms" show, is a fan of the concept. "The high quality of the visitors speaks for the excellent reputation of the fair and is an optimal platform for us as exhibitors, which is why it is always firmly scheduled in our calendar,” he says. “The trade fair organisation always listens to our needs, responds constructively to suggestions and actively seeks dialogue with the manufacturers."

Five machines from well-known manufacturers and dealers will be showcased at the event, along with innovative new offerings. In the "Telescopic Work Platforms" show, JLG will present a new telescopic work platform with self-levelling technology live in action for the first time in Germany. In addition, machine technology from Hyrax (via Ahern), Genie, Dinolift (via Hematec) and XCMG can be experienced first-hand. The show, which also focuses on tracked work platforms, will highlight compact, manoeuvrable and partly electrified machines from Teupen, CTE (via ATG Lift) and Platform Basket (via Kunze), which work in harmony. CMC, meanwhile, will be demonstrating a new crawler work platform with double telescopic boom and a clearance width of only 89cm - a new offering in the 30m class.

Electric Park with PD-Forum on alternative drive technology

In the special show Electric Park in the exhibition hall, which has been added to the Platformers' Days exhibition area for the first time, seven machines from six manufacturers and dealers will be presented. On each day of the fair, three participants will be organising a must-attend lecture programme in the so-called PD-Forum, in addition to the pure machine exhibition. Experts will talk about topics related to alternative drive technology in terms of opportunities, limits and infrastructure. Participants include Avant Tecno, Bravi Platforms, Hematec and Meykratec Hebetechnik. An electrified trailer crane from Klaas will also be on display in the Electric Park; in addition, Klaas has expanded its range to include mini cranes from the Japanese manufacturer Maeda and will be unveiling what is currently the most powerful truck-mounted crane with an aluminium jib. Other exhibitors will focus on the trend towards electric drives. Böcker, for example, will show the first fully electric truck-mounted crane in steel-aluminium construction, mounted on a Mercedes-Benz eActros, in the Electric Park. Böcker trailer cranes, which can be charged at any 230V household socket, will also be on show at Karlsruhe.

However, it is not only in the Electric Park that exhibitors are focusing on electrification: Genie, in conjunction with dealers BSI GmbH and ATG Lift GmbH, will be showing solutions for greater sustainability, lower maintenance requirements and higher utilisation of Genie equipment both in the hall area and the outdoor exhibition space. In the indoor area, the focus is on eco-friendly height access technology, including the latest Genie articulated telescopic and scissor lifts with hybrid and electric drives; in the outdoor area, Genie's product diversity will be displayed - including FE models from the field of hybrid technology.

Experiencing exciting new products first-hand

Also this year, Platformers' Days will attract world-firsts. Magni, for example, will be showcasing for the first time a 41m telescopic platform as a hybrid machine with a diesel generator as a range extender. The machine will be explained in detail, including how the lithium-ion battery can be recharged during use. In addition, Magni will show telescopic forklifts with rotating upper carriage for maximum safety, as well as a range of hydraulic, oil-free scissor lifts. Palfinger will be represented with aerial work platforms and, for the first time, a crawler crane at the Karlsruhe exhibition centre. Palfinger is currently the only supplier to offer a personal safety mode with the truck-mounted crane.

Ruthmann will show an excerpt from its extensive portfolio of various brands within the TIME Manufacturing Company. As a trade fair highlight, the company will be announcing further information on the development status of the new 100m riser, which will be launched in 2024. In the meantime, a 90m climber will be available for preview at this year's Platformers' Days.

The patron of Platformers' Days 2023 is the Ministry of Economics, Labour and Tourism of the State of Baden-Württemberg. IPAF is the conceptual partner, and the trade fair is also supported by the industry associations bbi and VDBUM, as well as the rental association PartnerLIFT.

Platformers' Days continue growth course and broaden their base

From 8 to 9 September 2023, the platform, crane, and forklift sectors will meet für Platformers’ Days, taking place für the second time in Karlsruhe. The successful move to the trade fair location enables not only the expansion of the exhibition space but also the further development of the product portfolio of the popular industry leader. In doing so, the trade fair considers the drivers of digitalisation, alternative drives and the topic of occupational health and safety. The focus target group of the Platformers' Days remains the rental company of lifting and high-access technology, supplemented by its users, with a focus on craft businesses such as carpenters, roofers or painters, landscapers, and arborists as well as classic industrial companies from the economically strong south-west. Furthermore, the trade fair is aiming to expand the product portfolio in the crane segment. Companies such as Klaas, Böcker, UNIC & Mobile Cranes Körner and Palfinger will present themselves in this core area. Platformers' Days is thus opening to new markets and target groups in related occupational groups and presenting them additional value on the machinery side.

Trade fair becomes a show of innovation

In addition to opening up new markets, the supporting programme of Platformers' Days is also to be further expanded. The special show "Electro Park" - where exhibitors can present their portfolio of quiet, economical and powerful machine technologies - is being relaunched and will now be supplemented by an expert panel. The platform thus serves the exchange and transfer of knowledge - also across sectors. There, companies can present their best practices in dealing with alternative forms of drive in order to counteract the reservations that still dominate in the industry with regard to, for example, performance and service life. One of the participants of the popular special theme area is Böcker. At the beginning of this year, the company launched the initiative "Böcker Goes Green" and expanded its product portfolio to include sustainable and alternative drives. "We firmly believe that the development of leading e-drive concepts in inclined lift and crane technology is groundbreaking and meets customer requirements. For example, we will be presenting the AK 48e at the trade fair, the first fully electric truck-mounted crane in steel and aluminium construction. We can best meet the emotions that this topic triggers, both positive and negative, in a physical presentation.

This gives us the opportunity to respond directly to enquiries about our technology and the associated concepts", explains Christoph Deuter, national sales manager at Böcker. The "Rough Terrain" special theme area, which was installed for the first time in 2021, will also be right in the middle of the action. It will be renewed with a professionalised show concept - including expert moderation - and will focus on tracked boom lifts. Participants in the Demo Area include Teupen, Rothlehner, Ruthmann, CMC and Hematec. The special theme area shows solutions to increasingly complex challenges in access to heights and gives the audience impulses on areas of application and possible uses in everyday working life.

Demand remains high

Already now - 10 months before Platformers' Days - 90 percent of the space in the outdoor exhibition area is occupied and bindingly booked: JCB, Sahalift, Multitel and Skyjack, among others, will be presenting themselves there. In Hall 1, which has been added as an exhibition area for Platformers' Days for the first time and covers a gross area of 12,500 m², Jekko Deutschland and Haulotte, for example, will be represented with large-scale indoor stands. Around two-thirds of all available space here has already been allocated or is on option. There is particularly great interest in the combined stands, which are being offered for the first time. These offer exhibitors the opportunity to present themselves with the live operation of their machine technology in the outdoor exhibition area as well as the electrified equipment or their service and financing offers in the hall area. Among others, Genie, Magni, Ahern, JLG and Hematec secured one of the highly demanded stands. Full space allocation will be completed in the first quarter of 2023.

In order to continue providing personal customer support and valued service quality even under continuous growth, Messe Karlsruhe is now broadening the "Construction and Environment" team comprising the two trade fairs RecyclingAKTIV & TiefbauLIVE as well as Platformers' Days. Senior Project Manager Olivia Hogenmüller's team welcomes Miso Maksimovic and Sandra Zabinski, who have been contributing to the project's success since this year. "Next year, with Platformers' Days, RecyclingAKTIV & TiefbauLIVE and NUFAM, we will be presenting an extensive portfolio of machinery and vehicle technology at the Trade Fair Centre Karlsruhe, which prompts us to increase our personnel resources and deploy them across projects," says Olivia Hogenmüller.

The event’s special safety and hygiene plan was also praised, with 95 per cent of respondents giving it a top rating.

“We are just so proud, relieved and happy that we were finally allowed to host a trade fair again after so long. The fact that this was the first time we held this event here makes it all the better. With all the height access innovations on show, including national, European and world premieres, Platformers’ Days is the perfect way to show how Karlsruhe is leading the way in digitalisation and e-mobility”, said Britta Wirtz, managing director of Messe Karlsruhe.

Project manager Olivia Hogenmüller summed up the mood: “Our first hosting of Platformers’ Days here was a big success, earning a great deal of praise and recognition. The positive reception among both exhibitors and visitors makes us very proud. We are now full of motivation for the next trade fair and are delighted to have had this opportunity to shape such a well-established event in the industry to meet market needs.”

“The Platformers’ Days premiere in Karlsruhe was a massive success. I am happy that we were able to transfer the spirit of the old location to Karlsruhe so smoothly and I can’t wait for the next event in September 2023”, said founder and strategic partner Oliwer Sven Dahms.

Dedicated exhibition space fully booked

Despite featuring twice as much exhibition space as the previous event, exhibitors had booked every square metre months in advance. A quarter of the regular exhibitors more than doubled their stand space, allowing them to present more products than ever before. The quality of the exhibitors was outstanding according to 99 per cent of respondents. “Coming to Platformers’ Days 2021 in Karlsruhe was an excellent decision. There was lots of information on offer, along with a huge number of innovations and a really good overall concept. The new location is just perfect”, said Dieter Beyer, owner of Beyer Mietservice.

Alongside the countless product premieres, one of the most pleasing things for the organisers was the fact that a fifth of the exhibitors were attending for the first time. Special attention was paid to key trends in mobile lifting and height access equipment, such as digitalization, sustainability and electrification. These were also reflected in the live demonstrations and were the inspiration behind the two new theme areas: “Rough Terrain” and “Electro Park”. Last but not least was the Lecture Cafe, organised together with Z Lab, the digital business incubator of the Zeppelin group.

Focus on networking

Exhibitors used the event to expand their networks, generate leads, catch up with existing customers and provide information. Over three quarters of respondents said they planned to make a purchase after the trade fair. Christian Ross, Head of Sales for Germany at Ruthmann, confirmed this: “The first day of the event in particular was excellent. We had lots of industry visitors and some excellent discussions, so from a quantitative point of view we are very happy. I believe our new products and the many innovations that we showcased here for the first time went down extremely well. We were able to generate a lot of orders here at the trade fair.” Johann Poschner, Head of Sales for Work Platforms at Palfinger Germany, also experienced success: “Messe Karlsruhe are great to work with as an organiser. They are extremely friendly, but also very professional. They have helped make Platformers’ Days a much more professional event, but without losing any of the familiar charm from the old venue. We generated over 50 good leads yesterday alone, so we are very pleased with the result.”

Professionalism, service and infrastructure

Karlsruhe offered exhibitors not only more space and outstanding infrastructure, but also greater service and a dedicated team for personal customer contact. The Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre also offered versatile facilities and a modern outdoor area connected directly to the exhibition halls.

Lutz Schwede, Sales Director Germany at JLG Deutschland GmbH, was full of praise for the event team’s dedication: “The preparations went very well and we were very pleased with the support we received. The planning and contact in advance were excellent, regardless of who we were talking to, and the whole team was extremely flexible. We met a lot of customers and did some good business. The atmosphere at the event was amazing. Virtually all of our dealers were there, which made it a very efficient trade fair for us. Above all, we are just delighted to be able to attend a live event and meet our customers again. I think everyone feels the same way. This then contributed to the general good mood throughout the trade fair.”

Old family feel retained

There was a wide range of products on show for users and leasers of lifting and height access equipment from all over Germany and beyond. After so long without in-person events, visitors could not wait to watch demonstrations and experience the machines up close. The event also provided an opportunity to discuss individual needs and solutions together with exhibitors. “We were extremely satisfied. Messe Karlsruhe did a brilliant job in transferring the event to the new location. We also really enjoyed the evening event, where we were able to make some good leads. Everything was very well organised. We made all the contacts that we were expecting. All in all, we are looking forward to being here next time”, said Simon Rath, Key Account Manager for Germany, Austria and Switzerland at Manitou Deutschland GmbH. This view was shared by Susanne Zelic, CEO of Greenmech, who were exhibiting at Platformers’ Days for the first time: “Platformers’ Days offers an amazing all-round package for exhibitors and visitors alike. I love the way the event was organised, particularly the networking evening. We can’t wait to be back in 2023.”

The next Platformers’ Days will take place on 8 and 9 September 2023 at the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre. More information at www.platformers-days.de.

Key players to showcase new developments

RUTHMANN STEIGER® T 700 HF
The compact RUTHMANN STEIGER® T 700 HF celebrates its big live appearance at the Platformers' Days 2021, Photo: RUTHMANN

Work platform manufacturer Ruthmann from western Germany will share a stand with its sister company Versalift, with widespread representation at the event. Ruthmann will present two new products: a Steiger® truck-mounted platform and a Bluelift spider platform, specifically the new Bluelift crawler lift designed for pruning. Another Ruthmann product making its German debut in Karlsruhe will be the Steiger® T 700 HF. This uniquely compact truck-mounted access platform boasts a working height of 70 m and an outstanding outreach of 41 m, all on a carrier chassis of less than 12 m in length.

Palfinger is set to present the latest vehicle design from its Light NX class in Germany for the first time. The manufacturer will provide more details before the trade fair. Visitors will also be able to see one of the company’s giant Jumbo class vehicles, along with its Premium models.

The travel restrictions caused by the pandemic led Skyjack to showcase its new product highlights at its first ever online exhibition at the start of 2021. For many, the event in Karlsruhe will therefore be the first opportunity to see the company’s latest models up close. Skyjack’s stand will feature the SJ12 compact vertical mast lift, with a work height of 5.65 m. Also on show will be the SJ4720 electric scissor lift, which is approved to carry three people up to a work height of 8.10 m and has a carrying capacity of 590 kg. Skyjack has used the pandemic period to better incorporate customer feedback and data-driven design. The fruits of this labour will be on show for the first time at Platformers’ Days.

Haulotte will also present a whole series of new products. These include the Sigma 16, HT16RTJ PRO, HS15/18E and Star6 Crawler, as well as the Sherpal telematics solution. As part of its “blue” strategy, Haulotte will showcase a pair of new work platforms from its PULSEO generation: the HS15 E and HS18 E. Combining a fully electric drive with off-road capability, these systems are the perfect all-purpose scissor lifts, capable of working indoors and outdoors, as well as in low-emission zones. Further boosting their versatility are three loading options that can be adjusted to the respective construction site. The removable and exchangeable range extender allows users to also work in remote locations without a power connection.

Liebherr will present its new MK 73-3.1, the smallest in its range of mobile construction cranes. This compact addition fills a gap in the company’s crane portfolio, which also features the MK 88-4.1 and MK 140. The small, 3 axle crane is Liebherr’s response to market needs for a compact and manoeuvrable mobile construction crane that is also quick and flexible.

Merlo is set to present the full breadth of its portfolio at Platformers’ Days. Alongside its Compact systems, the manufacturer will showcase its Rotos and Panoramics, alongside winch and platform systems. Merlo currently offers a total of around 60 telescopic loader models in seven design series: Compact, Medium, Standard, Multifarmer, Heavy Duty, Panoramic and Roto. Most of these can be fitted with a lifting work platform. Merlo’s new Panoramic series includes seven types, ranging from 3.5 to 5 t in weight and 11 to 18 m in length. The Compact series of telescopic loaders has grown to ten models.

Klaas, from the town of Ascheberg in western Germany, returns to Platformers’ Days this year to present its aluminium crane with platform function and lifting work platform in the 3.5-tonne class. Its largest mobile crane achieves a height of 54 m with platform, while its most powerful trailer-mounted crane reaches 31 m. There is also a range of platform models available for quick and tool-free switching, with load capacities of up to 500 kg. A new feature is the rotating work platform that can turn by up to 225 degrees in both directions. A manually telescopic connecting piece makes this flexible rotation possible even at a flat boom angle, while the system also ensures sufficient headroom.

Klaas offers two models of pure elevating work platforms: “Theo”, which is suitable for work heights of 25 and 20 m, and the latest 3.5-tonne platform “Rudi”, which features an additional cage arm. The Rudi21 can achieve a working height of 21 m, with a side range of 14 m with 250 kg of basket load.

As in previous years, visitors will be able to experience up close the latest machinery from major market players like Genie, Magni, Manitou, JCB, JLG and Teupen. Over 100 manufacturers and dealers offering everything from work platforms and forklifts to cranes and complementary products, will exhibit across over 20,000 square metres of outdoor area and another 2,000 square metres in the exhibition halls. Two new theme areas, “Rough Terrain” and “Electro Park” have also been added to the programme of live demonstrations.

Platformers’ Days, the leading trade fair for mobile lifting and height access equipment, is set to take place from 10 to 11 September 2021 at the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre for the first time. But despite the new venue, the event’s focus on demonstration remains stronger than ever. To underline this, organisers have added two new highlights to the programme: the “Rough Terrain” special theme area and the “Electro Park” special show. “With its special emphasis on demonstration, Platformers’ Days is the industry meeting point for mobile lifting and height access equipment. Visitors can experience machinery live and up close, compare them and get into interesting discussions about customisations, wishes and requirements in order to make the best purchasing decision”, says project manager Olivia Hogenmüller. More information and the link to the online ticket shop can be found at www.platformers-days.de.

New: “Rough Terrain” special theme area and “Electro Park” special show

Platformers’ Days 2021 will be held across 20,000 square metres of outdoor area, as well as 2,000 square metres of hall space and two new theme areas. The level and compact outdoor exhibition space of the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre offers the perfect stage for the live demonstration trade fair.

Visitors will be treated to plenty of action before they even reach the main event area. The new “Rough Terrain” special theme area will be spread across 2,000 square metres right at the main entrance. Here, selected manufacturers will showcase machinery and equipment on uneven ground, with changing substrates, inclines and obstacles. This will allow them to show off their strengths in real working conditions. “This reflects the core idea of Platformers’ Days of the last 20 years. It is this dynamism, with machinery in action everywhere you look, that participants really value”, explains Hogenmüller.

The “Electro Park” special show in the Atrium will be dedicated to the important topics of electrification and sustainability. It will present the latest machinery from the likes of Haulotte, Genie, Hematec, Teupen and JLG, with electrical and hybrid equipment and vehicles on show in a noise-sensitive environment. Visitors will be able to experience the benefits of these quiet, efficient and powerful systems for themselves, along with solutions for their applications that meet increasingly strict noise and emissions requirements.

Presentations cafe and partners

Also planned is a presentations cafe. Co-organised with Z Lab, the digital business incubator of the Zeppelin group, it will host two exciting presentations each day focusing on digitalisation in construction and solutions for the challenges the industry faces today. Here, visitors will be able to enjoy in?person discussions with experts from various sectors. The event is supported by the IPAF as its conceptual partner, alongside the bbi, VDBUM and BSK associations.

Over 100 exhibitors from the entire value creation chain

Platformers’ Days 2021 is set to welcome over 100 exhibitors and 200 brands, all eager to showcase their machinery, vehicles and systems for lifting and height access technology. Among the market players taking part in Karlsruhe will be big names like Genie, Haulotte, JLG, Liebherr, Manitou, Oil & Steel, Hematec, Rothlehner, Merlo, Teupen and Ruthmann. Around a fifth of exhibitors come from other countries within Europe, chief among them Italy and the Netherlands. The trade fair covers the entire value creation chain of the industry. As well as work platforms, cranes and material handling vehicles, 2021 will see a focus on associated products like batteries, software, transport for systems and machinery, as well as niche products for gardening and landscaping.

Platformers’ Days, the trade fair for mobile lifting and height access technology, is due to celebrate its debut on the grounds of the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre on 10 and 11 September 2021, with suitable safety and hygiene measures in place. Following the changes to the state of Baden-Württemberg’s coronavirus regulations that came into force on 7 June 2021, trade fair organisers can now finally begin to plan future events with confidence. This provides a durable basis for planning, especially for trade fairs like Platformers’ Days that take place largely outside. The Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre has dedicated 20,000 square metres of outdoor exhibition space to the event, together with another 2,000 square metres in the hall areas.

“The exhibitors have continued to show confidence in us and this year’s leading industry event. The exhibition spaces are now almost fully booked, which make us very happy,” says project manager Olivia Hogenmüller. “There is a strong need for innovation. The sector wants to showcase itself once again on the big stage to a specialist audience and discuss the latest product highlights in person. We are expecting over 100 manufacturers and dealers of access platforms, forklifts and cranes, as well as providers of complementary products on our large outdoor area.”

Major industry players set to exhibit, with exhibition spaces almost fully booked

The debut event at the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre is set to welcome some big names from the industry, with the likes of Haulotte, Genie, JLG, Liebherr, Manitou, Oil & Steel, Palfinger, Skyjack, Teupen, Ruthmann and JCB eager to showcase their innovations. Platformers’ Days 2021 will feature around 200 brands, along with discussions on a wide range of topics related to the use of mobile lifting and height access equipment. With three months to go until the event begins, 99 per cent of the exhibition space has already been reserved. Around a fifth of exhibitors come from other countries within Europe, chief among them Italy and the Netherlands.

Visitors will be able to get an all-round insight into the latest developments in the industry, as well as the chance to experience different machines up close and compare them directly. The trade fair will also showcase solutions for current challenges like digitalisation and sustainability, with providers of components, insurance and financing services also in attendance. The event is supported by the IPAF as its conceptual partner, alongside the bbi, VDBUM and BSK associations.

Oliwer Sven Dahms, founder and strategic partner of Platformers’ Days, highlights the event’s significance as an opportunity for in-person networking despite the pandemic: “Digital events simply cannot offer participants the same value as live ones like Platformers’ Days. It is important to be able to stay in touch and experience machinery up close, in order to find solutions together to the challenges facing the sector, specifically digitalisation, electrification and sustainability.”

Comprehensive hygiene and safety measures

This year, the organisers are relying on a clever system of hygiene and safety measures, following continuous coordination with the authorities. They will allow visitors to enjoy the event safely, while still having the space and freedom to network in a relaxed atmosphere. Visitors to the event will require a negative test result from that day, with a testing station on site. Visitors who are fully vaccinated or who have recently recovered from a Covid-19 infection will be exempt from this requirement. The trade fair will continue to provide full catering to all participants. There will be three catering areas at the event, with two of these outdoors.

Over 75 per cent of the exhibitors at Platformers’ Days, the trade fair for lifting and height access technology, have either already booked their stand for the event or reserved an exhibition space. Messe Karlsruhe is confident that the popular industry event will go ahead as planned from 10 to 11 September 2021, and is expecting over 100 manufacturers and dealers of access platforms, cranes and material handling equipment. “The coronavirus pandemic has hit the entire economy hard. Despite this, the flow of new innovations in the industry is as strong as ever. This makes it all the more important for us to offer a stage for investments and face-to-face discussions at Platformers’ Days”, says Olivia Hogenmüller, project manager of Platformers’ Days. In June 2020, the trade fair was postponed to September 2021 due to a lack of planning security. This was because the coronavirus regulations for trade fairs had yet to be passed by the state of Baden-Württemberg.

Full speed ahead

The exhibitors at Platformers’ Days still place great value on the event and its format. As a result, the majority of the manufacturers of lifting and height access technology stuck by their decision to participate as soon as the postponement was announced. “The Platformers’ Days exhibitors have maintained their trust in us. We are delighted at this incredible show of confidence. Together with them and our event partners, we are developing practical solutions that will allow visitors to safely experience the machinery at stands or at the special theme areas”, says Hogenmüller. Messe Karlsruhe is well prepared and is confidently facing the challenges of holding an industry trade fair during a pandemic. “We are of course working on a tailored safety and hygiene plan for Platformers’ Days, and are in close contact with the relevant authorities. Our priority is to create flexible measures. Since September, the trade fair industry has shown that safety and hygiene measures adapted to the infection situation can be effective”, adds Hogenmüller.

Platformers’ Days PRE-EVENT to showcase industry innovations in advance

A small taster of the trade fair will be on offer at the exclusive Platformers’ Days PRE-EVENT, to be held from 10 to 12 June 2021 in Karlsruhe during the RecyclingAKTIV & TiefbauLIVE twin trade fair. Long-standing Platformers’ Days exhibitors will present a selection of their product highlights and meet both regular customers from the leasing sector and an audience of technical specialists. Across the three compact days of the event, the action-packed demonstration trade fair RecyclingAKTIV & TiefbauLIVE is due to attract around 8,500 industry visitors. These will include business leaders from the construction and demolition sectors, as well as gardening and landscaping specialists. Oliwer Sven Dahms, founder and cooperation partner of Platformers’ Days, says: “Our exhibitors are desperate to see their colleagues and other market players again. The PRE-EVENT in the first half of next year will be the perfect platform for us all to meet again and really kick start sales activities”. The selected innovation of each Platformers’ Days exhibitor will stand for the quality of their entire product range, offering the chance for discussions with visitors. In June 2021, the exhibitors will have the chance to show where they stand on the market and preview the new innovations that will be on display at Platformers’ Days in September.

The organiser of Platformers’ Days, Messe Karlsruhe, has been forced to postpone the trade fair to 2021 due to official coronavirus regulations. The industry event for mobile lifting and powered access equipment was due to take place on 18 and 19 September 2020. It will instead debut at its new home in Karlsruhe on 10 and 11 September 2021. The new coronavirus regulation of the Baden-Württemberg state government that comes into force on 1 July 2020 prohibits events with more than 500 people until 31 October 2020. This therefore removes the legal basis on which Platformers’ Days could have taken place on the original dates.

Despite all of the uncertainties posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the initial signs were promising and raised hopes that Platformers’ Days could go ahead as planned. The event was due to take place largely outdoors, with visitors evenly spread out. The organisers had also developed a smart and comprehensive safety and hygiene plan and presented it to the relevant authorities.

Britta Wirtz, CEO of Messe Karlsruhe: “We at Messe Karlsruhe could not afford to wait for coronavirus regulations allowing trade fairs with several thousand visitors to take place so that Platformers’ Days could go ahead in September. We have therefore sadly been forced to postpone the event. We had hoped that the state government would back our plan and give us the peace of mind we needed, but those hopes have been dashed.”

“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the exhibitors, partners and staff who have supported us on this long journey,” adds Olivia Kollmer, project manager of Platformers’ Days. Despite the sadness of the postponement, she is looking forward to next year’s event: “We have received many excellent ideas from the industry, which we can now combine with our own expertise to ensure a successful trade fair next autumn. We can’t wait.”

Platformers’ Days to go ahead as planned in September

Platformers’ Days, the trade fair for mobile lifting and powered access equipment, is due to take place as planned in September 2020 at the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre. “We are of course watching the development of the coronavirus pandemic closely. Our current assumption, however, is that Platformers’ Days will go ahead as planned on 18 and 19 September”, explains Britta Wirtz, CEO of the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre. The leading event in the industry is set to take place in Karlsruhe for the first time.

Exhibitors follow Platformers’ Days to new venue

Exhibitors have reacted very positively to the new venue. Over 100 companies with around 200 brands are due to showcase the full range of mobile lifting and powered access equipment across 25,000 square metres of exhibition space.

Platformers’ Days offers industry visitors an excellent opportunity to compare the various systems and machinery on show, with exhibitors from Germany and beyond set to present products and solutions from this fast-growing sector. Among the market players taking part are big names like Genie, Haulotte, JLG, Liebherr, Manitou, Oil & Steel, Palfinger, Skyjack, Teupen and Ruthmann.

Exhibition space expanded due to strong demand

The majority of exhibitors have chosen larger stand spaces on which they can showcase a wider range of products, including those with alternative drives. Due to high demand, the project team has added the Atrium to the available outdoor exhibition space. The trade fair is therefore continuing its focus on the outdoor area, with its total exhibition space of 23,000 square metres (91% of the total), along with comfortable rest areas and wide aisles. Another 2,000 square metres of space are available in the indoor hall areas, offering exhibitors more options for presenting their products and solutions.

Platformers’ Days is all about live demonstrations of systems, machinery and vehicles. The exhibition grounds in Karlsruhe provide the perfect conditions for this, with live demonstrations possible on every surface. Exhibitors also value the newly created special theme areas, which offer more options for presenting equipment and machinery. They are also a must-see for visitors, especially decision makers looking to experience the products live in action.

Industry event with family feel perfect for networking

Industry visitors are certain to find the solutions they are looking for at Platformers’ Days. The trade fair is particularly popular among leasers of lifting and powered access equipment. Their customers in sectors like facility management and cleaning, gardening and landscaping, glass and facade engineering, crane and heavy-load handling, use the event to find out about the latest developments and products for each application. At its new venue, Platformers’ Days 2020 will also offer the ideal environment for networking. The evening events present the perfect opportunity for relaxed discussions. With its family feel, the industry’s leading trade fair invites visitors to share knowledge, expertise and experience in a laid-back atmosphere.

Preview of next event in Karlsruhe

The event had outgrown its previous venue in Hohenroda near Frankfurt, which was bursting at the seams in terms of infrastructure, hotel capacity and presentation options. The move to Karlsruhe gives Platformers’ Days more room to develop. In her preview of the coming event, Olivia Kollmer, project manager for Platformers’ Days, emphasised: “We want to maintain the family feel of this industry meet-up, while taking the opportunity to develop it further. Karlsruhe offers the best conditions for this”.

The asphalt-covered outdoor exhibition space makes it easy for exhibitors to showcase and demonstrate their products. New special theme areas offer exhibitors additional presentation options, while allowing visitors to watch and compare the machines in action. Many of the exhibitors took the opportunity to see the spaces they had reserved. Alexandra Schawohl from Ruthmann confirmed: “We spent part of our time here looking at the exhibition grounds. Coupled with the anniversary event, we think we made the right decision to exhibit at Platformers’ Days and are already looking forward to the fair”.

Other major players in the industry, including the likes of Genie, JLG, Magni, Manitou and Merlo, have also marked Platformers’ Days 2020 in their diaries. Due to high demand, the project team has added the Atrium to the available stand space, adding another 1,000 square metres for presenting mobile lifting and powered access equipment. This means that Platformers’ Days in Karlsruhe will have a total of 9,300 square meters of exhibition space. The vast majority of this will be across the outdoor area and Atrium, with the trade fair centre’s Event Hall providing an additional 300 square metres for stands.

Looking back at 20 years of Platformers’ Days

The first Platformers’ Days was held from 17 to 19 June 1999 in the town of Hohenroda near Frankfurt. Oliwer Sven Dahms, who co-founded the event and is now responsible for sales, looked back over its successful 20-year history. He thanked the manufacturers and exhibitors to whom the event is so important for their loyalty and the strong working relationship. “It’s been a lot of fun turning Platformers’ Days from a small event to the most important trade fair in the industry. Taking the event forward with a new venue was the next logical step. Just as children grow up and leave their parents’ home, Platformers’ Days is flying the nest and looking forward to a new chapter”.

Demonstration focus popular among both visitors and exhibitors

A tour of the open-air exhibition area of the RecyclingAKTIV and TiefbauLIVE trade fairs showed that the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre knows how to host exhibitions that focus on demonstration. Approximately 8,500 visitors from the recycling and civil engineering sectors were able to witness the efficiency and performance of around 1,500 machines and systems on show across live demonstrations and special theme areas. Guests to the anniversary event used the tour to get to know the new venue, while a networking evening provided the opportunity to look back on the last 20 years and look forward excitedly to the future in Karlsruhe. The special show for powered access equipment taking place as part of the twin trade fair also gave a taste of what Platformers’ Days will have to offer. A total of 14 manufacturers and dealers showcased 16 vehicles and machines in the Atrium. Dr Peter Neven, a trade fair expert and CEO of AUMA, the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry, delivered a keynote speech at the celebration and supports the demonstration focus of both Platformers’ Days and RecyclingAKTIV/TiefbauLIVE: “This format is good for both visitors and exhibitors. The Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre definitely has its finger on the pulse of the market”.

The anniversary event and preview made one thing clear above all: manufacturers and leasers of mobile lifting and powered access equipment value Platformers’ Days as the most important event for the sector in the region. Its demonstration format and professional organisation, coupled with the new venue’s excellent transport connections and large outdoor exhibition space, wowed leasers, dealers, manufacturers and users alike.

About Platformers’ Days

Platformers’ Days is the leading trade fair for mobile lifting and powered access equipment in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Over 2,000 industry visitors from around the world took the opportunity to find out about mobile lifting and movement on the grounds of the Hotelpark Hohenroda near Frankfurt. In 2019, the event switched to a new organiser and a new location in Karlsruhe in south-west Germany. The change of venue is the result of the collaboration between the event’s previous organiser Vertikal EVENTS and Karlsruher Messe- und Kongress GmbH (KMK).

Britta Wirtz, CEO of KMK, welcomes the latest addition to the calendar: “After hosting RecyclingAKTIV, TiefbauLIVE and NUFAM, we have plenty of experience in trade fairs with a focus on demonstration. We are therefore confident that this experience will help us make Platformers’ Days successful at its new home. Given our focus on commercial vehicles and construction, it is also the perfect addition to our portfolio of events. Vertikal EVENTS will remain the point of contact for customers while aiding us in the strategic focus of the event”.

Oliwer Sven Dahms, owner of Vertikal EVENTS, has high hopes for the future partnership: “As co-founder of Platformers’ Days, it is very important to me that the event continues to evolve successfully. I’m sure that the collaboration with the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre will see it go from strength to strength. Karlsruhe is the perfect venue for Platformers’ Days. I am looking forward to the cooperation”. Dahms will work together with the project team from the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre to transfer the event to the new venue, improve processes such as logistics and visitor management, and develop the event.

Bursting at the seams

In discussions after the last Platformers’ Days, held in September 2018 in Hohenroda near Frankfurt, exhibitors supported the move to the new venue in Karlsruhe. “In Hohenroda, the event was bursting at the seams,” explains Dahms, “The move to Karlsruhe will let us offer exhibitors the greater stand space that they have been asking for and provide better service to visitors and exhibitors alike”. Britta Wirtz adds: “We at the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre have the ideas and capacity to make the event a success, along with modern, bright event halls and a large outdoor exhibition area. Our combination of outstanding infrastructure and comprehensive logistics services is ideal for open-air trade fairs like Platformers’ Days that focus on demonstration”.

Excellent infrastructure and accommodation

Karlsruhe is one of the main economic centres in south-west Germany, with excellent transport infrastructure. Visitors arriving to the main station by high-speed rail can reach the trade fair centre via train or shuttle connection. Baden-Baden airport is nearby and there is an hourly high-speed rail service to Frankfurt international airport. The trade fair centre is also located right next to the A5 and A8 autobahns. These excellent connections are ideal for both visitors and exhibitors. Alongside its excellent transport connections, Karlsruhe offers a growing selection of accommodation options, ranging from guesthouses to 5-star hotels.
